We were coming home from errands and it was clear I wouldn’t make it to my usual sunset spot in time AND stuff was happening in the sky. So we stopped about five miles from home, on an unfinished street at the top of a ridge between a shopping center and an assisted living facility – an unlikely location for a popular sunset view. A passerby looking out at the vista said to her friend, “Isn’t this just majestic?” Not something you hear every day.

I was at a baseball game of the Charlottesville Tom Sox for my birthday and the horizon was indeed ringed with clouds, but the occluded fireworks of course were in Nice.
