Fever Dream (Sunset, Friday, 22 July 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, FEVER DREAM (Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

102° today at the airport (about four miles away). When it’s 90° in the farmhouse kitchen, but no one’s been cooking, that’s kinda hot.

Summer and Smoke (Sunset, Monday, 18 July 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, SUMMER AND SMOKE (Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

It’s not smoke, it just feels steamy enough for a Tennessee Williams play. I remember the trailer for the film really got my attention, with my family at the drive-in, when I was 12 or 13. I could tell that was one movie they were not going to take us to see . . .

Authentic Sunbeams (Sunset, Sunday, 17 July 2011)

William Theodore Van Doren, AUTHENTIC SUNBEAMS (Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va.) Oil on watercolor block, 13 x 19.

No, I haven’t entered some new phase of paintings inspired by Biblical illustrations of divine sun rays – this is what I’ve been seeing the last couple of days. They’re just your ordinary everyday divine sun rays. Any resemblance to Sunday school art is unintentional.
