William Van Doren, SOLSTICE BEHIND THE SCENES. Sunset from Stony Point, Albemarle County, Va. Oil on Arches, 17 x 23.
A few days around the summer solstice is the only time the sun sets almost as far north as our little local Piney Mountain. In all honesty, although the sun appeared for a while about 45 minutes before sunset, after that everything clouded up and I couldn’t see it at all. But I decided not to let a little thing like that get in the way of a full and accurate description.
